Earlier this year, the D.O.V.E. Fund made a major commitment to assist people
affected by Agent Orange in A Luoi district. Partnering with Vietnam-based NGO,
Hearts for Hue and the Agent Orange Association of A Luoi, the multifaceted plan
will utilize resources from A Luoi District hospital, Hue Central Hospital,
Hue Medical University and each of the 17 Commune Health Centers (CHC) in
A Luoi district.
The long-term objective is to significantly enhance the overall health and
well-being of Orange Agent affected individuals residing in A Luoi district
by implementing comprehensive interventions for early detection, effective
treatment and robust post-treatment care focused on mitigating the impact
of AO related diseases, ultimately improving their quality of life.
The program will use a four-pronged approach focusing on:
--- Training to improve cancer screening and palliative care capacity for doctors
and medical workers at the Commune Health Center in A Luoi. This training
program will give medical professionals the additional skills necessary to
provide the best possible service to the people of the district.
--- Comprehensive screening and examinations of individuals for possible
cancer issues related to Agent Orange exposure in A Luoi district.
--- Provide enhanced medical treatment for people diagnosed with
cancer at Hue Central Hospital.
--- Expand capabilities to provide a broad range of palliative care services
for patients suffering from the debilitating effects of late-stage cancer
where treatment has proven ineffective.
