In a few weeks, the D.O.V.E. Fund will hold its
annual dinner auction to raise funds for
projects in Vietnam. Although we have a
wide range of programs that will receive
funding, there are three projects that will
gamer special attention during auction night.

Scholarship Programs

Nothing is more rewarding than to see the
genuine gratitude shown by a child who is given
the opportunity to learn. For talented
deserving students who are poor and are in
difficult family situations, the scholarship
program is a gift that can change their lives.
During our visits each year we feel the
appreciation of dozens of students who are
awarded scholarships. Most of the
scholarship funds are raised during the "special
ask" portion of our auction night when we ask
our guest to pledge funding for worthy students.
It is always gratifying to see how many people
step up and support the young students of
Vietnam.

Solar Lights

For so many families in rural areas of Vietnam,
life goes on without many things we here in
America take for granted. Several years
ago, thanks to the efforts of D.O.V.E. Fund
members, Hao and Tina Lam, the Solar Lights
project was developed. A single light,
powered by a small solar cell that is positioned
on the roof of the house, opens up a whole new
world to families who once used candles and
kerosene lamps. Children can do their
school work, parents can do housework and
prepare meals long past sundown. As at
last year's auction, the D.O.V.E. Fund will have
samples of the solar lights on display so guests
can donate funds to buy a light for a family in
Vietnam. We will be providing more than
100 solar lights to Quang Tri province during
our January 2014 visit.

P.E.T. Project

P.E.T. mobility chair

The personal energy transportation (P.E.T.) is a
low-cost but highly durable hand-cranked wheel
chair. The P.E.T. device assists amputees or
those who have lost the use of their legs to
become mobile and less dependent on family
members for simple transportation. Last
year we delivered P.E.T. devices to amputees,
accident victims, disabled army veterans and
those suffering from the effects of Agent
Orange. For those people who could not
walk or move without help, receiving the
mobility chairs was a life- changing experience.
As a result of last year's experience, we will
return to Vietnam again this year with more
P.E.T. chairs. The D.O.V.E. Fund will have
a P.E.T. chair on display during the auction so
guests may make contributions to help the many
people in need of this extraordinary device.
